Fit for anything …
This is a great Blog on the story of one man who signed up to a challenge at Kirkcaldy’s Leisure Centre. We caught up with Colin Beavis to discover his journey that has changed his life …
Colin lives in Kirkcaldy. He works as a Relief Supervisor at Stagecoach East Fife at the Aberhill Garage. Colin says: “I’ve been with the company for 16 years now. I like to keep active – but, as with many people, my job involves a lot of sitting.”
Colin has hobbies that keep him busy – both gardening and fish keeping – but last year he looked for a challenge that would help him become fitter.
Colin explains: “In April 2018 I joined the gym at Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre – through my work – where I met Michael Thomson. Michael put me on a programme and I started going 3 to 4 times a week.”
Michael explains the programme saying: “As with all visitors to the gym, we put Colin through an assessment to discover what it was that he wanted from his time with us – and then made recommendations for exercises that would help him to achieve his goals.”
Colin’s programme included a mix of activities designed to help – from using the gym’s rowing machine (looking out across the bay) to other items of their equipment – such as their cross fit machine pictured below.
Michael says: “Colin was dedicated. He wanted to make a real difference to his health and lifestyle – and we worked with him to help every step of the way.”
The results?
We’ll let Colin tell you: “When I started, I was approximately 16st and going into a 38 inch waist. I’m now 14st and down to a 34 inch waist. Michael has been a great inspiration for me and I feel a lot fitter and less tired than before.”
Colin is passionate about Kirkcaldy. We asked him what he’d recommend to anyone visiting for the first time – or for the first time in a long time: “There’s a lot on offer” says Colin, adding: “There is a great museum and the library at the train station – and the Adam Smith Theatre always has a great calendar of events. You’ll also find some good independent shops in our town centre.“Naturally, Colin’s biggest recommendation is for the Leisure Centre. He says: “If anyone is interested in getting fitter – making themselves feel better – why not visit the Leisure Centre for a swim, gym and sauna. You can also take a walk along the Waterfront – the view over the water to Edinburgh and east Lothian is beautiful.”
Hats off to Colin – and a big congratulations to Michael and the team at Kirkcaldy’s Leisure Centre. Below – a wee video clip that shows you more …
