Get creative with your space!
Our TV screens are awash with property programmes telling us how we can make more of our homes. If you’re like us, you’ll probably watch them – discuss how you could shift this, change that – and then run out of steam! Unless you’re a DIY fanatic, the challenge seems too big. What we all need is a specialist company that can take a dispassionate look and advise us all. As luck would have it, just such a specialist is right here on our doorstep. Our latest business profile catches up with Komandor Storage Solutions …
Komandor are specialists in the design, supply and fitting of customised space-saving, fitted furniture for your home and your business. Based in Kirkcaldy from their showroom, they cover Fife, Edinburgh (where they have an office), the Lothians, Tayside, Perthshire and Stirling.
An International manufacturer and distributor of complete interior fitted furniture design solutions and sliding door systems operating for over 20 years, they provide a full product design and fitting service from their showroom – a permanent fixture on Kirkcaldy’s High Street (at number 69) since 2014.
Ken Hunter of Komandor says: “Many people are looking to enhance their home or their office environment by upgrading their fixtures and fittings rather than move. We can bring flair and innovation to interior design by tailoring new wardrobe systems, efficient storage solutions and unique furniture that reflect attractive contemporary, traditional and modern designs” Ken adds: “We love to involve our customers in the the design process in real time using our sophisticated computer-aided 3D design software that provides instant pricing as the design is developed.”
The partners in the business came from different industries – each had backgrounds in different engineering disciplines: one in mechanical and the other in construction Рpredominantly in housing and commercial development. When they came together, they both shared a growing interest in improved space-saving design for the home and business. They could see how new building design was progressing where all too often storage facilities were considered a low priority.
Ken explains: “We set a goal to improve how space could be saved and used efficiently with designing high quality fitted furniture that set good design, innovative and with ‚ÄòWOW‚Äô factor principles.”
Those ‘WOW’ principles are helping customers identify under utilised areas to solve storage issues including:
- Under sloping ceilings
- Below staircases
- Unused space in larger rooms
- Hallway storage
- Free-standing cabinets
- Wall storage
- Office storage / Home office
- Corner spaces
- Loft-room storage
- Room partitions
Ken is very proud of the fact that “85% of our orders are from referrals by happy Komandor customers“.¬†Their reputation results from the quality of service – from start to finish – across many sectors. Solutions for the office and hotel market are their commercial speciality.¬† Their products and fittings, for both domestic and commercial properties, are of high quality – all manufactured to ISO9001 Quality Mark. They are built to last and deliver an efficient, quality finish – at affordable prices.
Ken says: “If you are thinking that you need a better storage solution, replace those tired mirror wardrobes, or perhaps want to upgrade or utilise unused lost space by installing a customised storage solution that looks great and fits well into your room, then come and visit our new showroom and see some examples of what we can offer. We offer a free survey and design service and are happy to discuss your ideas without obligation. Designs are either carried out in your premises or in our showroom design suite.”
The company has two directors, a showroom/design assistant and they employ freelance fitters – personally vetted by Komandor to achieve the high quality installation standards that they promote.
We asked Ken what are his greatest personal and business achievements: on a personal level “the ability to accept challenges” was high on his list. On the business front, Ken says: “We have established a company profile with our customers renowned for providing a high standard of communication, product and customer service ‚Äì innovative and unique designs at affordable prices.”
