COUNTING DOWN TO KIRKCALDY’S CHRISTMAS
Kirkcaldy4All and the Mercat Shopping Centre are working together again this year to bring a whole calendar of family-friendly Christmas events to the town in the run-up to 25th December …
Sunday 17th November
The festivities kick-off at 12 noon on Sunday 17th November with the ever-popular Mercat Reindeer Parade. It begins at noon from Thistle Street.
One lucky child will be able to join Santa on his Sleigh by entering our ‘Win A Sleigh Ride with Santa’ competition in conjunction with Kingdom FM. Check their website for entry details and terms.
Free antler hats and treats will be handed out! The Mercat Grotto opens after the parade and children can then come and meet Santa … right up until Christmas Eve.
It will be open until 5pm on Sunday 17th November – and then on Fridays (December only) from 1pm-5pm, Saturdays (10am-5pm), Sundays (noon-4pm) as well as on Monday 23rd December (11am-4pm) and finally on Christmas Eve (11am-3pm) … when Santa has to dash! Times are correct of publication. Any questions, please message the Mercat Centre through their Facebook page.
Saturday 23rd November
The following Saturday, Kirkcaldy’s Christmas lights will be switched on. Families are invited to Charlotte Street for a fun afternoon (4:30pm – 6:30pm) of entertainment, music and refreshments, with the chance to meet the cast of Kirkcaldy’s pantomime. During the event, the lights on a giant Christmas tree outside Society will be switched on.
One lucky child will push the button to light the tree by entering a competition run in conjunction with Kingdom FM.
During November, there are FREE craft workshops at the Mercat Shopping Centre. Children and their families are invited by Kirkcaldy4All to come and get creative, decorating stars, with the help of artist Jane Rigby. The workshops will be on Saturday 9th and Saturday 16th November. There’s no need to book, but please note you may have to queue!
Children also have the chance to decorate stars in a number of local businesses in Kirkcaldy. You’ll find details on venues via this link. The stars that are created will be hung on the Christmas tree at Society.
Saturday 23rd November also sees the launch of Kirkcaldy4All’s Christmas Star Trail …
Thirty stars, some over a metre tall, will be appearing in shop windows in the town centre – and a map will guide families to them. The stars have been decorated by local schools and artists and some even by the businesses themselves. Families who spot all the stars will be entered into a prize-draw to win a £100 shopping voucher. Details on how to enter will be on the map – and made available online at the time.
For the grown ups?
Kirkcaldy4All are organising a Candy Cane Cocktail Trail …
Nine cafes, bars and pubs in Kirkcaldy will be selling special candy cane cocktails – and mocktails! They will also feature on a map, and those who post a selfie of themselves online enjoying their cocktail (or mocktail!) also have the chance to win a spot prize. Just remember to tag #KdyKandyKane so we can spy your selfies!
Mercat Shopping Centre Manager, Stephen Roberts, said: “I’m delighted we’re working together with Kirkcaldy4All again, this year, for what is set to be a fantastic festive period across the town. There will be so much going on in and around the Mercat Centre and Kirkcaldy Town Centre for families to get excited about and plenty of opportunities to take part and get involved. The countdown to Christmas is very much on and everyone at Mercat Shopping Centre is looking forward to welcoming all our customers for this fantastic community celebration.”
Manager at Kirkcaldy4All, Bill Harvey, said: “This is the third year we have worked with the Mercat at Christmas to bring some Christmas cheer to the town and help its local businesses. We have a whole programme of Christmas fun planned throughout November and December. We are grateful to all the town centre businesses and local schools for supporting these initiatives so enthusiastically, and hope that the people of Kirkcaldy will also get behind us and come down to the high street and enjoy what’s on offer in the run-up to Christmas.”
There are many other events and activities happening in the town and we are happy to promote them all …
